Chapter Fifteen
Pedro Gomez was sitting on his couch watching television, when his door was kicked in. Instantly, he reached for his big, black, menacing semi-automatic shotgun that he kept near him at all times. But it was too late. Like all small ranch houses built in that era, the front door led directly into the living room, and the intruders were upon him in seconds. They too, had big, black, menacing looking shotguns, as well as a variety of other weapons. Some of which he had never seen the likes of before. A couple of which were pointed at his head.
"Don't even think about it!" one of the men told him.
Pedro slowly released his shotgun, and another one of the men snatched it away from him. He knew who they were, and who they worked for, and why they were in his home. All of the men were Black, well dressed, and well groomed. That meant they worked for the Reigns family.
"Well, well, well," Dante said, strolling through the front door, peering around the living room. "Nice remodel. Ninety-two inch T.V., brand new leather sofas, updated light fixtures. I see you've done well for yourself, Pedro."
Pedro shook his head and exhaled forcefully. "What is it, Dante? I don't know where she is, I don't know where they are, and I had nothing to do with that shit. I don't roll with operations like that, man. I don't kidnap no kids."
"Of course not," Dante said smiling. He rifled through Pedro's hair in a playful manner, like a father ruffling his kid's hair for doing good in sports. "You're much too honorable for something like that. No, Pedro, I want to talk to you for a different reason."
"What is that?" Pedro asked.
Dante continued to walked around Pedro's living room, taking in the decor, lifting little statues, vases, and figurines, and checking out the workmanship of Pedro's living room remodel.
"I want to talk to you about goats and worms," Dante told him. "Goats and worms."
"Goats and worms?" Pedro let out a half laugh, and peered at Dante's men. He was confused.
"Yeah, Pedro, goats and worms," Dante told him. "You see, you are without a doubt, the best smuggler to have ever walked this planet. The absolute best. Whether it was human cargo, or drugs, or whatever, you always got it through. And you've never lost a single cargo, or a single person in what? Twenty years? Thirty years?"
Pedro nodded. He was proud of his record.
"You know every single path, every single smuggling trail, as if you were a fucking goat," Dante told him. "Back when you were working with us, I swear, I used to tell Damian that you were half goat."
Pedro smiled and let out a half laugh.
"And you know every fucking tunnel from San Antonio, down to Matamoros, Brownsville, Lajitas, Laredo, the entire fucking border," Dante continued. "Hell, some of them you burrowed yourself. It was as if you were part worm. And so, that's why I needed to talk to you, because you know this shit like that back of your hand.
